ASA End of Xmas Party 2017

The Anambra State Association Finland (ASA Finland) recently hosted its Christmas End of the Year party, a sophisticated cultural extravaganza that highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the people of Anambra. Held at the Espoon vpk-talo hall in Itäinen Jokitie 1, Espoo, Finland, on the 11th of November, 2017, the event was a dazzling display of pomp and pageantry.

The celebration saw participation from nearly all Igbo associations across Finland, including those from Helsinki, Turku, Tampere, Vaasa, and representatives from other African states such as the Ghanaian King of the Ashanti community in Finland, and delegates from Kenya, Senegal, Cameroon, among others. Dignitaries and representatives from other Nigerian tribes and state associations also graced the occasion, making it a grand gathering of Igbo elites in Finnish society. This event underscored Anambra’s role as a pacesetter state in Nigeria, known for its rich culture and tradition.

ASA Finland, serving as the umbrella body for Anambra indigenes in Finland, aims to strengthen the bond among its diaspora members. Mazi Anthony-Claret Onwutalobi, the chairman of ASA Finland, opened the event with a speech that conveyed messages of love, peace, and harmony amongst Ndi Anambra. A felicitation note from the Anambra State Association Europe was presented by the ASA secretary on behalf of the Interim chairman of ASA Europe, Mr. Christian Onuorah, who commended ASA Finland for their unity and hard work.

This year’s event was particularly special as children from Anambra and other states received gifts from the African Father Christmas, adding a magical touch to the festivities. The event was chaired by Mr. Anthony-Claret Onwutalobi, who also oversaw the investiture of Mazi Edwin Nzewi as the patron of ASA Finland, highlighting the association’s appreciation for his scholarly contributions.

A significant moment of the celebration was the launch of the association’s almanac, with Mazi Kentucky, a successful Igbo businessman, serving as the chief launcher. The event also featured splendid performances by Anambra state women and children, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Ndi Anambra through song and dance.

The event concluded with a raffle draw, with Mazi Osuala winning a brand-new laptop, and a vote of thanks by the vice chairman. The evening ended with attendees taking to the dance floor, embodying the spirit of community and celebration.

In his closing remarks, Mazi Anthony Claret Onwutalobi reflected on the year’s achievements, noting the association’s growth, the successful integration of cultural equipment to promote Igbo cultural values, and the establishment of an efficient membership and document management system. He expressed gratitude to all members and their families for their contributions and highlighted the anticipation for another successful year ahead.
